In the recent past, I worked for a financial company that offered “incentive trips” to its financial advisors for achieving a certain level of production. Because I worked in an office that qualified for this “bonus”, my reward was seeing the catalog that came in the mail offering a multitude of exotic vacation options for my boss. One of these trips stuck out like a sore thumb for me because I’m such a sucker for trains. I could just picture the splendor of sipping on champagne while watching the emerald hills sliding by.
This incredible Scottish train journey was offered by the Belmond Royal Scotsman. I had never heard of this company so I did some research and it turns out that they offer a collection of trains (as well as iconic hotels and river cruises). I just knew I’d hit the jackpot! Here is their website: http://www.belmond.com/ This company also offers an Orient Express train trip called the Venice Simplon – Orient – Express. Amazing!! I’m going to focus on the Belmond Royal Scotsman today. Just from the picture I posted above you can immediately see the type of magnificent interior surroundings you would enjoy on this trip. The cars are decorated in such a warm & comfy style. I love how they have combined tartans and plaids with polished woodwork, shiny brass fixtures, tailor-made window treatments, and inviting lamps.
The sleeping cabins are so richly decorated that I’d feel like a royal sleeping in here!
Amazingly, this journey also offers a spa!! Right on the train! It’s called the Bamford Haybarn Spa. There are two single treatment rooms constructed out of sustainable wood cultivated from both the Cotswolds and Scotland. Now you can become even further pampered with massages, facials, and mani-pedis after a day of roaming around the Scottish Highlands.
Apparently, guests can enjoy musical entertainment along the way.
Dining on this train is sumptuous. It has its own dining car ….
Belmond offers a variety of Scottish train journeys. Some of the sites that you can see (depending upon your length of stay, which can be anywhere from 2 to 7 nights) are: Plockton village, Cairngorms National Park, Loch Lomond, Ben Nevis, Morar, the Isle of Bute, and some of the finest Scottish golf courses, castles, estates, and gardens . A 7-night Grand Tour of Britain is also offered.
What could be more romantic or adventurous than to relax in a gorgeous compartment
and enjoy a trip back in time aboard a luxurious steam train chugging through Scotland’s highlands?
