I wish I could say that I actually stayed at “The Ritz” on Amelia Island in March 2014, but of course, I didn’t. I stayed in a budget motel down the road in another little town called Yulee and ate at Arby’s. However, I did attend the RM Sotheby Auctions at “The Ritz”. Here, fabulous exotic and antique vehicles are auctioned during the annual Concours d’Elegance. The auction will be held again this year on Friday and Saturday (March 10-11, 2017).
I will show you some of the beautiful vehicles that I saw as well as the stunning views from the back of the Ritz.
Anyone can attend this show. There is no fee. But if you’re not staying at “The Ritz”, you have to find a parking spot. There are plenty of places to park if you don’t mind paying a fee and walking. It is worth the walk, though. You probably won’t see cars like this anywhere else.
The cars are placed outside, inside, and under tents. While I was there, I saw one of the Keno brothers who regularly appears on PBS’s Antiques Roadshow.
Here is a modern car – a white McLaren.
This show is well worth attending. You won’t get bored and you can even walk around inside The Ritz (it was as close as I may ever get to stepping inside of one) and see the displays and things for sale.
On the way back to the car, I saw an interesting old Alfa Romeo. It wasn’t part of the show. Whoever owned it just drove it there for enjoyment. It was parked in the same lot mine was.
And at a restaurant, I came across this old Rolls Royce ….
You never know what you might come across when attending a show like this. Many people love their antique cars and drive them to the auctions. It’s a lot of fun. I’d love to go again this year since it has been awhile. I don’t know if I’ll make it, but if I do, I’ll post more pictures.
